Texas Community Participates in Dedication of the Green Mountain Energy Wind Farm at Brazos

Local Community to Enjoy Barbecue and Western Music

AUSTIN, TX - April 20, 2004 - Hundreds of residents from two West Texas counties will join government and company officials in dedicating the second largest wind farm in the State of Texas on April 22, 2004. A Texas barbecue and a live band will greet more than 250 residents of Scurry and Borden counties who will gather at a community center in the West Texas town of Fluvanna at 11:00 a.m. The dedication of the 160-megawatt Green Mountain Energy Wind Farm at Brazos provides an opportunity for the companies involved in the wind farm's construction and operation to say "Thank You" to the surrounding community.

Owned by Shell WindEnergy and Padoma Wind Power, the wind farm consists of 160 one-megawatt Mitsubishi wind generators. Each turbine is approximately 230 feet tall, weighs 370,000 pounds and produces zero emissions. The project generates enough energy to power 30,000 average Texas homes per year. The Green Mountain Energy Wind Farm at Brazos prevents an estimated 360,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) each year. To put this into perspective, it would be like taking all the cars and SUVs in Houston off the road for about a week to avoid the same amount of CO2.
